Profiloplasty
Image analysis seeks the overall harmony of the face and profile, while taking into due account the personality of the patient.

Profiloplasty does not aim to alter a single part to make it conform to a universal model, rather, it aims to give harmony and attractiveness to a face and a profile whose shapes are not harmonious.

The procedure improves the characteristics of a face without subverting them, it does not follow popular fads; rather, subject to the relevant functionality requirements, it must satisfy the patient, who should be able to identify with his/her new image. Most often, a surgically corrected profile may appear even more natural compared to the original one.

In line with this approach which prefers overall harmony above all, at times and in accordance with the patient, the intervention may be done also on more elements together: eyelids, cheekbones, and in particular on the profile of lips and chin, to give natural proportions to the entire profile.

For instance, simultaneously with rhinoplasty treatments, you can intervene on the chin’s profile when there is a receded chin (the excess cartilage on the nose is used to accentuate the chin).

Due to these motives, rather than a rhinoplasty treatment, we are dealing with an “image study” performed during the visit, with the help of some photographs of the patient. The final profile achieved through the operation corresponds to the study performed on the photograph.

Example of an image study

  • The first image shows the initial condition of the face which presents a profile curve evidencing a hypoplastic chin and a receded columella.
  • The second image simulates the result of surgery.
  • The third image proposes the overlaying of the first photo with the second where in transparency you can note the extent of the corrections made.
  • The fourth image shows the final result of the profiloplasty.

To give harmony to the face, an additive mentoplasty treatment was performed: the correction of the nasal hump, correction of the nose tip bringing forward the columella and reducing the nasal wing.

The preoperative and postoperative images show the correction of the nasal hump and the columella which was brought forward; also the chin has clearly improved.
